Question: Can I submit my manuscript on a computer disk?

Answer:No. Floppy disks and other removal media such as Zip disks, except for CD-ROMs are not acceptable. Therefore, the Copyright Office still generally requires a printed copy or audio recording of the work for deposit.

Answer:"Copyright protects ""original works of authorship"" that are fixed in a tangible form of expression. The fixation need not be directly perceptible so long as it may be communicated with the aid of a machine or device. Copyrightable works include the following categories: literary works; musical works, including any accompanying words dramatic works, including any accompanying music pantomimes and choreographic works pictorial, graphic, and sculptural works motion pictures and other audiovisual works sound recordings architectural works "




Question: How can I know when my submission for registration is received by the Copyright Office?

Answer:The Copyright Office does not provide a confirmation of receipt. Currently, if you use a commercial carrier (such as Federal Express, Airborne Express, DHL Worldwide Express, or United Parcel Service), that company may be able to provide an acknowledgment of receipt by the Copyright Office.




Question: What download works are protected?

Answer:Uploading or downloading works protected by copyright without the authority of the copyright owner is an infringement of the copyright owner's exclusive rights of reproduction and/or distribution.
